3,126 new infections with the coronavirus have been added in Austria in 24 hours. Thus, the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Health reported on Friday the second highest value this year. On January 14, with numerous subsequent reports, 3,510 positive tests had been registered. Meanwhile, the number of hospital patients rose again to over 1,600, two weeks ago it was under 1,300. 348 patients were in intensive care units on Friday, 33 more infected died.

Most new infections were reported in Vienna with 969, 632 were in Lower Austria and 465 in Upper Austria. Styria added 325 cases, Tyrol 202 and Carinthia 199. Salzburg had 188 positive test results, Burgenland 110 and Vorarlberg 36.

The seven-day average thus rose to 2,533 new infections on Friday. In addition to January 14, there had been several occasions in early and mid-December when there were well over 3,000 new cases on single days. The seven-day incidence per 100,000 inhabitants also scratched the 200 mark with a value of around 199 on Friday.

The number of hospitalized patients with SARS-CoV-2 rose 13 from the previous day to 1,609, an increase of 188 hospitalized patients, or 13.2 percent, in seven days. Intensive care unit occupancy increased even more significantly than overall hospital occupancy, with an increase of 19 patients in one day. 33 additional deaths also meant ten more victims than the average of the previous seven days (23.1). So far, 8,831 people have died across Austria following infection with the coronavirus.

The official number of active cases climbed to 26,133 affected people on Friday. So far, 11.97 million tests have been reported, including 5.94 million PCR tests. 57,715 PCR test results were added within the past 24 hours, of which 5.4 percent were positive.

929,497 Corona vaccination were entered into the E vaccination passport by midnight, according to the dashboard at info.gesundheitsministerium.at. That meant 38,435 verbalizations on Thursday. According to the report, a total of 667,570 people have received a first dose and 261,927 people have received the two vaccine doses needed for full protection.
